Teaching
I am an instructor for Diversity in Individual and Family Life in Purdue's Department of Human Development and Family Science
This course focuses on the experiences of diverse individuals and families in the United States across sociocultural contexts and racial, gender, sexual, ability, and class identities. As an instructor, I aim to foster the development of critical thinking, scientific strategies for problem solving, and preparation for citizenship. A goal of this course is to prepare undergraduate students for professional practice with diverse populations.
I have experience leading Research Methods Lab Sections as a Teaching Assistant in Appalachian State University's and the University of Louisville's Psychology Department
As a lab section leader for research methods, I helped students learn and apply concepts for sound study design such as sampling techniques, operationalizing variables, and data collection methods. During these classes I would encourage students to relate their own educational or vocational goals to their in-class activities. I also have experience guiding students through conducting basic statistical tests, using SPSS, making and interpreting graphs, and writing research papers
I have developed and co-lead workshops about inclusive teaching and undergraduate professional development
I am passionate about sharing what I have learned with others. In collaboration with Lauren Girouard-Hallam, I have distributed materials and lead workshops on inclusive teaching with educators who are at the graduate and faculty level. Together we also created and lead a professional development workshop series for undergraduate research assistants to help prepare them for upper level college experiences and graduate school applications.
Mentoring Undergraduate Research
It has been a pleasure to mentor undergraduates through the research process. From seeing them collect data to presenting posters and talks, it is so rewarding to see them grow as scholars and researchers.
